Try a Discovery Scuba Dive in Mahahual, Quintana Roo

Summary: First time doing any kind of scuba dive and this was a wonderful experience! Lucas at Doctor Dive was our guide and he was so patient and thorough. I had a lovely time exploring the reefs of Mahahual. If you are coming from a cruise ship at the port of Costa Maya, it’s a quick cheap taxi ride from just outside the port to the Malecon downtown area, and then a couple blocks’ walk to Yaya Beach where Doctor Dive is located. I was very glad we opted for this excursion instead of a beach club because the smell of the sargassum was overpowering, and our time in port wasn’t long enough for most other excursions in the area.

Summary: We got our own taxi to the dive shop. The port terminal was a zoo, and it took at least 20 minutes from the gangway to the taxi stand. Pointing this out so you allow enough time to accommodate the long, winding walk to the taxi stand. Tony was our dive instructor, and he was amazing. It was my first diving experience, and he made me feel very comfortable. My partner was an experienced diver, so he helped me more and dove along with us so that we were both comfortable and confident. Our gear was in good condition. He pointed out fish and ocean life for us. It was a great experience! I would have enjoyed a locker at the dive shop for my gear while I was on the dive. Would recommend this!

Summary: We had an amazing time with our group. We came in on a cruise and had plenty of time to enjoy. We plan to come back and enjoy more scuba time. Thank you all for an amazing day!

Summary: The staff was fantastic. We had Tony as the instructor. My wife really enjoyed the diving. I unfortunately not able to get down far my ears would not pop. But Tony did not try and push me any further. They were very cautious about saftey and making sure everyone was comfortable. Great job guys. Hopefully we will be able to go with you again.

Summary: Our second time going out with Doctor Dive and another incredible experience! Last year we did snorkeling and they told us next time we should dive. So we did the intro Scuba with myself and my 10 and 12 year old.l, all first timers. We had an absolute blast. Ceaser and Tito were fantastic guides and made the whole process easy, safe and fun. Highly recommend if you are cruising through Costa Maya. Skip the boat excursions and book directly with Doctor Dive you will not be disappointed. Great boats, great people and fantastic experience.

Summary: What a great experience. This was my second discovery experience and the first for my 11 year old daughter. Antonio was the instructor and the guide. He explained everything in detail and made sure my daughter was comfortable with all the information that was being delivered. We did our practice in the shallow waters of the shore. He had us practice each of the safety tasks a few times to make sure we were comfortable doing them. It was very reassuring especially for my daughter. We then headed to the reef where we saw beautiful ocean life of all sorts.. Since this was my daughter’s first dive she was a little nervous and unsure at times. Antonio’s lesson was so detailed she knew what to expect at each part of the dive. How her ears would feel and how to fix it. How to get her buoyancy dialed in. How to relax and breathe and then he focused her attention on the amazing ocean life that allowed her to settle in and enjoy the adventure. Antonio knew exactly where to find all the special corals and fish. Another bonus was that my wife was able to enjoy the Yaya beach club while we did our diving and lessons. We rented a chair and a thatched umbrella for her and she was able to relax by the ocean and even watch our practice in the shallow waters. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend them to any one scuba diving or snorkeling.

Diving off the Costa Maya Coast of Mexico over the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (Worlds 2nd largest) with my brother and friend. It doesn’t get any better for a bucket list experience. Full disclosure I took a discovery class at home in the States before taking this excursion. In hindsight It mentally made me more prepared (removed jitters) but was unnecessary as Doctor Dive crew was everything you need. If you have a dream to see this beautiful place up close don’t miss this experience. You will see the ocean differently for the rest of your life. 10-Stars!😎
