Summary:
We had an amazing experience rafting the lower new river. The lower new is definitely a little more intense than the Upper new portion of the river.
The check-in process was smooth where we got fitted for our helmet, PFD, and got our paddle. We all boarded a bus and headed to the river. Through the bus ride, our guide, gave detailed instructions on certain River scenarios that could happen like falling out of the raft. He was very knowledgeable about rafting and provided some great history about the gorge. If you decide not to do it, there is opportunity to take the bus back.
Once we got to the launch location, we helped with lifting the boat into the river. We decided to take the front positions in the front. If you don’t like getting splashed upfront I wouldn’t recommend taking the front!
There are 25 rapids with various class ranges on the lower new with calm floats in between. The guide gave us paddling instructions to help navigate the rapids safely. Along the way, you can get out and float some calmer rapids on your back with your toes pointed down River. There was a great lunch break provided along the River bank, and there was some jumping off some big rocks into the River.
We were on the 10:00 AM trip and got off the river around 3:00 PM which we were a little early. We helped with deflating and lifting the rafts to the trailer, boarded the bus, and headed back to the AOTG meeting place. Later we watched the video and looked at the pictures at the picture booth.

Summary:
This is our second time using AOTG for our activities and they don't disappoint. This time we did the Lower New River all day trip. Mason was our guide and was super fun and knowledgeable. I love that they were able to accommodate my gluten allergy for lunch (request made when I made the reservation). I had a wrap waiting for me, a delicious cucumber and tomato salad, and the best gluten free brownie I've ever had! The river was up really high which made all the rapids that much better. My son and I had a great time!

Summary:
I cannot say enough good things about our experience here. Everything is so well thought out and organized to the details that just make your experience that much better. The grounds are clean, the bathrooms are always clean and every single person we encountered from the river guides (big shoutout to Fidge who honestly treated us like family) to the locals to the maintenance guys were just so nice and really go out of their way to make sure you’re having a nice experience. The bar is nice, the pool is refreshing and the views are really spectacular. I cannot wait to come back.
