Summary:
Kayaking on the Colorado River was an absolutely lovely experience — the water was clean, calm, and the scenery was stunning. My husband and I opted for a tandem kayak (though in hindsight, individual ones might have been more fun!), and we did the 4-mile tour (2 mile upstream and 2 mile downstream), which was quite easy and enjoyable. We also did small 20 min hike which was also very doable.
Our guide, Michelle, was fantastic — so energetic, friendly, and helpful throughout the trip. She was also quite knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna of the place. She made everything easy and fun, and even took lots of great photos of us while we kayaked, which she kindly shared afterward.
A few tips:
- Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a change of clothes (we did this in July when it was 44°C)
- If you don’t have water shoes or sandals, there’s a store at launch site where you can buy them — my husband wore regular sneakers and managed just fine.
- Avoid taking a cab to the launch site; it’s very difficult to find a ride back. Either opt for the pick-up/drop-off service or drive yourself.
All in all, a memorable and fun experience — highly recommended!
