Still Yorkshires best kept secret The Yorkshire Wolds are a range of low rolling hills which rise from the River Humber at Hessle and run in a crescent shape through stunning countryside to the dramatic cliffs at Flamborough Head and Bempton north of Bridlington. The gentle hills make it an ideal area for both walking and cycling. The area is unspoilt and rich in history and there are many historic houses and churches to visit. The chalk grassland of The Yorkshire Wolds is a rare habitat in Britain and is a haven for wildlife.
The Yorkshire Coast towns of Bridlington, Filey, & Scarborough are all less than 20 miles away, each offering a different experience for those of you who enjoy a day out at the Seaside. Do not miss a day out in the maritime town of Whitby, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula and now home to the annual Gothic Weekend.
The North York Moors railway based in the market town of Pickering just 15 miles away is the gateway to The North Yorkshire Moors. It offers 18 miles of steam railway running through spectacular moorland scenery. You can stop off in Goathland also known as Aidensfield in Yorkshire TV's Heartbeat and the bewitching Hogsmead in the first Harry Potter film.
The Historic City of York is just 25 miles from The Old Forge Holiday Cottage. Highlights include the majestic York Minster, The Jorvik Centre, York Castle Museum and The National Railway Museum. You can also explore many of York's hidden secrets which are often tucked away in the cobbled streets, snickets and snickleways.
