Enjoy a self-catering holiday or short break in Foxglove Cottage, in the friendly farming hamlet of Alton, part of the award-winning parish of Ashover. The cottage has two bedrooms and accommodates up to four people, although it is a particular favourite with couples. Situated on a private lane with no through traffic, there are fabulous views across the valley towards Hardwick Hall, owned by the National Trust and well-worth visiting.
This pretty cottage offers guests accommodation over two floors, although there is also a cellar, where the tumble-dryer and freezer are located. On the ground floor there is a cosy living room with a stone fireplace and open log fire. An initial supply of logs and coal are provided free of charge. Next door there is a dining kitchen. Upstairs there are two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed and one featuring twin beds. The bathroom is also on the first floor. Outside there is a private garden with garden furniture and barbecue. Please note that there are several steps to the main garden area. You are welcome to bring one well-behaved pet to stay with you in Foxglove Cottage, at no extra charge.

We recommend you walk the half mile to the Ashover Rock (known locally as The Fabrick), take a picnic and enjoy panoramic views across five counties. If you enjoy horse riding or want to learn, there is a riding school in the village.
The main village of Ashover, a mile from the cottage, has several good pubs, one of which is renowned as one of the oldest pubs in the Peak District and another which offers home brewed Ashover ales. Foxglove Cottage is an ideal base for exploring Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park. Chatsworth is an easy drive across Beeley Moor, with Matlock and the market town of Chesterfield both within a few miles. The county town of Matlock, a former spa town, offers a host of fine eating places, good shops and an interesting museum, whilst at the heart of the town, Hall Leys Park provides a lovely setting for a host of recreational activities such as bowls, tennis and boating.
