Positive: The accommodation’s location, views, pool facilities and its owner’s agent (‘the Agent’) were all excellent and cannot be faulted. The accommodation (apartment B1, first floor) was adequate but that actual apartment was not shown in any of the images on Booking.com’s advertising that I had viewed and that I had considered when making my decision to make the booking. It can therefore be concluded that the accommodation was misleadingly advertised. My first interaction with the Agent was relating to my concern that there were just 4 toilet rolls between the two bathrooms. The Agent’s response to this was that the owner’s instructions were to provide just the 4 toilet rolls for the three occupants for the 10 days of occupancy. Clearly, I was astonished by this response and, I believe, the Agent shared my astonishment. I also believe that she could understand why I had concluded that such a response would confirm that any attempted interaction with the uninterested owner would be both time consuming and possibly without any satisfactory outcome, in the event of there being further issues that we might have.
Negative: There were further adverse issues reported to the owner via the Agent. These, and the Agent’s responses were as follows: • blocked (waste) hand basins (x2) in the main bathroom – this was rectified by a plumber on the day it was reported to the Agent but quite honestly, this is the type of issue that should have been checked and rectified before the occupancy of the apartment commenced. • outside light not working – this is clearly a health and safety issue as torches on mobile phones were needed to find the passageway to the main door at night – the Agent confirmed that the owner was aware of this and was arranging for bulb replacement / repair. This did not happen during the 10 days of our occupancy. • the side by side fridge freezer had a broken freezer door that meant the freezer was in constant defrost. This was mentioned to the Agent but not followed up as we had no cause to use the freezer and I do not believe that a freezer was listed on the available facilities. • the shower over the bath in the main bathroom could not be used after the first attempt as any use of the shower completely flooded the bathroom floor – the Agent confirmed that she was aware of this problem as was the owner who had apparently installed a shower screen recently but this did not mitigate the flooding. In the circumstances, all three occupants had to share the shower in the other bath/shower room for the duration of our occupancy. • although not adversely affecting our use of the apartment, there were clear signs of water damage (not made good) on the ceiling in the lounge area, the ceiling of the main bedroom and the walls of the toilet adjoining the main bathroom. The Agent confirmed that the owner was aware of this damage and informed that it had been caused by a leaking hot-tub in the apartment located above B1.
