Idyllic thatched cottage, Jurassic coast, walking distance to 2 great pubs | Cottage in Powerstock

3 Bedroom Cottage in West Compton, Powerstock
Beautiful detached Grade II listed thatched holiday cottage, with origins dating back over 250 years, is nestled in the picturesque village of Powerstock within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty deep in the West Dorset countryside.
The cottage is well equipped to meet your need for a fantastic holiday in Dorset, with updated soft furnishings for 2023.
Downstairs you enter through the front door to a hallway. On the right is a large kitchen leading onto the breakfast dining room opening out to the large enclosed walled garden.
To the left of the hallway is the lounge with two comfortable sofas, a window seat and large fire place with wood burning stove. Beyond this is the second living room (snug), which also opens out to the garden. Finally, at the end of the hallway beyond the stairs there is also a shower room with toilet.
Upstairs there are three very good sized bedrooms, 2 king sized and one twin. There is also a family bathroom.
To the side of the cottage is a wooden gate and gravel drive where there is parking for 2 cars on the property.
Please note this is accessed by the narrow lane so can be tight to swing into the drive. If two cars are parked on the drive, it can be tricky to then close the gate so please be aware when booking. Please note gate has been repaired following a recent review.
To the rear of the cottage is a large cottage garden with plenty of lawn and mature boarders which is enclosed, with plenty of room for children to play.
The village of Powerstock is rural and quiet but with a lot of history. It is mentioned in the Doomsday book and sits at the foot of the ancient Iron Age fort of Eggardon Hill. There are numerous walks and cycle paths from the door.
A few minutes walk from the cottage takes you to the 15th Century Norman church looking over the valley, and just beyond is the popular Three Horse Shoes public house with excellent local food and beer (Good Pub Guide 2023 'Worth a Visit'). A little further on along a footpath to Nettlecombe is yet another pub, The Marquis of Lorne (Good Pub Guide 2023 'Recommended').
The bustling market town of Bridport is 5 miles away and has many restaurants and cafes and twice weekly markets with a great array of local produce. Bridport has a thriving music scene, with local venues and regular concerts. It acts as a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast, the first natural World Heritage Site designated in England. The coast at Burton Bradstock, managed by the National Trust, is 7 miles from the cottage. The fishing port of West Bay and scene for the popular TV drama 'Broadchurch' is also only 15 minutes away for the cottage.
Farther afield is the coastal town of Lyme Regis, a lovely seaside town, beach and harbour with great fish and chips and watersports. Also setting for the iconic film Ryan's Daughter.
The county down of Dorchester is 25 minutes drive from the cottage, which has an array of shops, museums, cinemas and churches.
1 small dog allowed provided he/she is kept downstairs in the living room (not snug) and kitchen only and remains off the furniture. Please bring a bed for your dog.
