Alboh Farm is a unique heritage property with 900 meters of shoreline giving unmatched privacy. A large four bedroom summer home sits on a large lawn facing the lake. Two romantic sleeping cabins nearby allow for up to ten guests.
The main house has a screened sun porch with wall to wall windows on three sides, a beautiful paneled living room with large Perth limestone wood burning fireplace, a dining room overlooking the lake for 2 or 10, a two room kitchen with two fridges and four bedrooms with two washrooms. The two sleeping cabins have new mattresses but are without washrooms.
Walk from the main house to the stone crib dock to watch the sunset or swim out to the raft from the small sand beach. The beach is a perfect play area for small children. If you are active, there is a paddle boat, croquet, canoe and badminton. There is excellent fishing right off the shore. If you want to relax, there is the hammock, lawn chairs and unmatched privacy: 76 acres of privacy to be exact!
If you have a boat, there is a boat launch nearby and a docking slip adjacent to our dock. If you want to play golf there are two courses nearby - Blue Heron Golf & Country Club and Timber Run Golf & Country Club.
If you want a cottage with a big television, hot tub and maid service, then I am afraid Alboh Farm is not for you. We come to the cottage to get away from those things! We enjoy eating, swimming, reading, playing games (we have them all), being with family and friends, sipping a glass of wine or beer on the dock as the sun sets and then listening to the loons as we drift off to sleep. That is the Alboh Farm experience and why Alboh stands for "A Little Bit Of Heaven".
Here is some practical information:
Alboh Farm was built in 1937 by James Craig and is owned and operated by two of his grandchildren, David and Susan Craig.
The main house has four bedrooms. The downstairs bedroom has a double bed and is adjacent to a two piece washroom. Upstairs there is a Master Bedroom with a new Queen bed and a single bed. (We use this room for parents with small children as there is space for a crib.) There is also a Lakeview Room with a double bed and The Little Boys Room which has two single beds. The second floor also has a three piece washroom. All bedrooms have electric space heaters.
There are two sleeping cabins.
* The Wee Hoos is a single room with a double bed and two single beds. Recently restored and repainted, this is a good space for older children or teenagers.
* Mon Repos is a small log cabin at the far end of the lawn near the water. It has a Queen bed and a single bed. We sometimes refer to this as the Honeymoon Cabin.
The bedrooms all have blankets but guests are required to bring there own sheets and towels.
The kitchen is equipped with:
Two large refrigerators, stove, convection oven, coffee maker, pots/pans, cutlery, dishes, serving utensils, toaster, kettle, blender and a wide variety of herbs and spices. There is no microwave or dish washer.
Outside the kitchen is a propane BBQ (gas supplied).
Outside there a huge lawn surrounding the main house with patio tables and chairs, beach toys, badminton net, croquet set, hammock and paddle boat.
LOCATION: Alboh Farm is situated between Father's Point and Craig's Shore on Lake Mississippi. (In Google Maps, search for "Craig Shore, CA")
The cottage is 15 minutes away from Carleton Place where there is grocery stores, a beer store, LCBO, Starbucks, Canadian Tire and restaurants and 20 minutes away from historic Perth. Kanata, where there is a big movie theatre, is 30 minutes away. Ottawa is 45 minutes away. We are happy to answer questions.
