Positive: Monthey is a fantastic location if you are spending a few days exploring Switzerland and the neighbouring French areas. It's a lovely little town with plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and local walks (try the gorge walk and suspension bridge). During our week long stay in Monthey we visited Montreux, Vevey, Greuyer, Maison Cailler Chocolate factory, Zermatt, Grindelwald, Interlaken, Chatel and Glacier 3000, all well worth exploring. The apartment was quiet, had a nice view of a local hillside from the balcony, good internal facilities such as the kitchen and large dining table and is nice and spacious. The host is very nice and helpful, kept emptying bins for us and providing fresh towels and was always available if we needed anything. The windows all have external shutters for night time, using the manual turning rod from the inside (which we weren't normally familiar with from overseas).
Negative: There is no long term parking right next to the apartment. All spaces in the apartment complex are private. For short stays there is paid parking on the roadside if you can find a space, otherwise there is a partially covered car park around the corner about 5 mins walk which is paid between 7am to 7pm but relatively inexpensive (0.5F per hour), especially if you are out exploring for most of the day avoiding the chargeable hours. One thing to be aware of is the apartment has a lot of personal items in it, giving the impression someone lives there when it's not rented. Expect personal photos on the walls, clothes and shoes in the cupboards, drawers and wardrobe, plus items in the bathroom cabinet (even the wash basket had dirty clothes in it). This isn't a big problem if you are living from a suitcase, but something to be aware of to manage your expectations. The neighbouring apartments also don't seem to like the apartment being rented, so we often found notes stuck to the apartment door or in the elevator asking for the apartment not to be rented. Again, this didn't cause us any problems and nobody challenged us in any way, so just something to be aware of. On balance, despite these things to be aware of I would stay there again and recommend the apartment and location to others - the advertised information for the apartment just needs to be honest about such details.
Summary: Great location, good value for money, spacious, nice host, some exceptions to be aware of.
