Lumière Lodge is a uniquely designed home brimming with colour and character. Look forward to the morning light as it casts its way through the many large antique windows, and beyond our wild cottage garden is all yours to enjoy.
From here, Old Hobart Town awaits. It is easy to dash out on foot and grab a quick coffee or bite to eat but, the charm of this grand home may tempt you to stay in and cook. At night stunning chandeliers, wall sconces and antique oil paintings create the perfect evening mood and social space.
Whether you're a cook, chef or romanticist our traditional English kitchen is well equipped with chefs knives, induction stove top, full steam oven and combination microwave oven. A sunny flagstone courtyard with bi-fold doors is just beyond the large kitchen space with an outdoor dining table and Webber BBQ - perfect for the summer months.
For photography purposes, please note that the home is shaded, cool and moody in parts of the home during summer. This is due to the added foliage on the tall English trees and the height of the sun. The light is crisp and strong in the winter months.
Please feel free to get in touch if you need an exact explanation of the changing light with the seasons. Lumière Lodge is available as a creative space by appointment only.
Lumière Lodge has been thoughtfully created by owners Kerran and Samuel and has been listed in The Weekend Australian's 'Hot 50 Places to Stay' in Australia. Also, featured in and on the covers of Homes and Gardens UK, Country Style Magazine (Christmas editions), The Design Files, Delicious Magazine and Remodelista.
Guest access:
Lumière Lodge is an 1800s home (previously listed under National Trust). There is a steep, narrow heritage staircase to the attic space. We urge guests to have their most able travel companion carry luggage too and from the top.
Please, increase guest numbers if you require an additional room for your guests. Additional bedrooms will be closed-off otherwise. Lumière Lodge has three bedrooms all with unique bathrooms. Our base price is for two guests sharing one bedroom. Please see below explanation.
1 Bedroom - 1 to 2 people
2 Bedrooms - 3 to 4 people
3 Bedrooms - 5 to 6 people.
We do have a comfortable set-up for little feet, but we do highlight the need for parents to monitor toddlers in the home. There are many delicate antiquities and steep stairs that would cause concern for parents (and hosts). We do not recommend that children between 1.5 to 5 years old stay, unless parents are very observant of them.
Lumière Lodge is situated on a flat and wide tree-lined street. At 190sqm you will have plenty of space. Access and parking is easy. Park your car in our driveway or at the front of the house. No need to worry about parking fines, parking is unmetered here. Entry is via the front gate. The front door is our main point of access.
Other things to note:
During your stay we like to include little added luxuries including world class ammenities and linen sheets. Each booking will also receive stone ground sourdough, locally sourced butter, honey, free range eggs, milk and tea/coffee making facilities. For longer stays, croissants are ready to be prepared the night before and baked fresh for delightful slow mornings with your fellow travellers.
On arrival guests can indulge in complimentary spirits, locally made and award winning cheese, pepper berry quince paste and crackers. Beautiful dried floral arrangements are also scattered around the home and changed seasonally.
Tasmania is an island and is subject to changeable weather conditions so come prepared for rain, hail or shine. We have electric blankets, a large wood burner and air conditioning/heating to keep you snug during all seasons. Firewood is supplied and kindling is foraged in near by bush land. Hosts will get in touch during winter months to arrange lighting of the fire for added comfort upon arrival.
