This romantic suite at 801 Frenchmen underwent a two-year, careful historic preservation of its exterior Italianate architectural style and modern renovation maintaining its charming Victorian interior. Suite No. 1 is one of two luxe second floor suites. With deep respect to the past, and all the modern amenities of the present, 801 Frenchmen has officially returned to its original grandeur.
Guests are invited to relax and enjoy the true romance of New Orleans indoors and out. The all-new interior is more modern than the facade suggests. The large balcony serves as an outdoor living room of sorts where one can relax with a cocktail in the sun, with a good book, or people watch and soak up the rhythms of this scenic neighborhood's art, architecture, music, food and history.
Inside our bright airy home is an all-new, professionally decorated interior with historic 1830s charm with all of today's modern comforts. The architectural elements, period lighting, antiques, millwork and vast windows all remain, and depict how time has stood still at this popular address.
The large living room has a marble fireplace, large flat screen cable/tv, chesterfield velvet sofa, and comfy furniture that begs you to take a cat nap after exploring the streets of NOLA. Cable tv and wifi are complimentary and we also have on hand an old school vinyl record player (with bluetooth speakers) for you to explore the sounds of NOLA's homegrown blues, funk, brass, gospel, rock or listen to your own playlist in your home away from home.
The eat-in kitchen with brand new state of the art designer appliances including a refrigerator, stove, hood, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and sink along with a washer and dryer and a dining area that seats four is all ready for you.
Quality sleep and relaxing downtime is everyone's numero uno priority. A good night's sleep is priceless. The two private bedrooms, one king and one queen, are super comfy and feature ceiling fans, brand new mattresses, blackout window treatments, and designer bedding along with sizable closets and shelving.
The luxe bathroom featuring marble flooring and Kohler fixtures in French Gold has a spacious shower, sink, mirror and lavatory and signature Egyptian cotton towels.

LOCATION & NEIGHBORHOOD
Immerse yourself in this historic neighborhood closest to the French Quarter called the Faubourg Marigny, and better known by locals as just “The Marigny.” Frenchmen Street is the epicenter for old and new, and where the lines between locals and knowledgeable out-of-towers blur. Everyone here is having a grand time!
The home is just steps to the action along Frenchmen Street aka THE hot spot for bistros, bohemian bars, and authentic jazz clubs. So when you have seen and heard enough of the ruckus on nearby Bourbon Street (about an 8 minute walk from Frenchmen) — then its time to really downshift and explore NOLA life the way locals do. Sidewalk musicians and brass bands add a block party vibe to the nighttime Frenchmen Art Market, which sells local artwork and hand crafted goods. The Spotted Cat, Snug Harbor, Cafe Brasil, Apple Barrel, Maison, 13, and Three Muses are all not to be missed. This vibrant musical enclave is the place to be, and truly comes alive at night.
Quieter spots during the day include Washington Square Park just across the street where the lawns are shaded by old mossy Spanish oak trees and the nearby Crescent Park which overlooks the mighty Mississippi River.
NEIGHBORHOOD HISTORY
Located just downriver from the Vieux Carre (aka French Quarter), the Faubourg (ancient term for "suburb") Marigny was created as the first suburb to New Orleans’s famous French Quarter back in 1806.
The Marigny was once a large plantation owned by a colorful character, Bernard Xavier Phillippe de Marigny de Mandeville (did you get all that?), a Creole man who made the dice game “craps” popular in America, and who once dazzled New Orleanians with his flashy style and large inheritance.
After subdividing the property back in 1806, the Marigny developed as a mix of cultures and races, some with a distinctly European flair and still serves as a haven for tradesmen, artists, musicians, chefs, and preservationists among other bon vivants.
Today the Marigny remains a vivacious and true New Orleans cosmopolitan neighborhood. Colorful Creole and Classic Revival cottages line the historic Marigny. If you meander down any of the Marigny’s winding streets you’ll come across historic bank buildings, refurbished homes, guesthouses, restaurants, galleries and corner stores. Adjacent neighborhoods to the Marigny include: Treme, Bywater, and the French Quarter.
GETTING AROUND
Frenchmen Street is just a short 5 minute scenic walk to the French Quarter so walking is best. On your way to Jackson Square, Royal (best antiquing) or Bourbon Street (raunchy but fun) you will pass many of the city's top sights, including: French Market, Mississippi River, Steamboat Natchez, Riverfront Streetcar, Jax Brewery, Voodoo Museum, Woldenberg Park, Aquarium, Insectarium, Ursuline Convent, U.S. Mint, Cafe du Monde (beignets+cafe au lait), Pontalba Buildings, St Louis Cathedral, Cabildo, Presbytere, Jazz Museum, Beauregard-Keyes House, Hermann Grima House, 1850 House, and Le Petit Theater to name just a few.
Bike rentals are available across the street in front of the park via "Blue Bikes," the New Orleans' bike share program.
