Summary: This was an amazing day walk on the Cochamo Trail. Maria from Patagonia Trails was a superb guide who, as a local, had an incredible understanding of the both the natural and human history of this area. The old-growth temperate rainforest, stunning geological formations and the pristine Petrohué River were highlights for me. We also met some locals on horseback, wearing traditional outfits and using the trail for original purposes - those encounters were an extra bonus. The trail was quite technical for walking and you needed to wear appropriate shoes and concentrate throughout the day. We had good weather on the day but were well prepared with warm waterproof clothes in case the weather took a turn for the worse. Hiking with such an experienced guide really helps in these situations. This day was a great adventure that I will remember for many, many years to come.
