Summary: My partner and I had a really interesting and entertaining day visiting Moldova from Iasi, with Iulian, our great guide. From pick up to drop off we had a super time. Iulian is very knowledgeable about both history and current affairs. This meant ha could talk about the history of the region and why Moldova exists, and the current status of various regions within the country. He also let us know a bit about the upcoming election (now over) and the issues (without getting into politics) . The winery was so unusual – 120kms of limestone tunnels and we whizzed around a few to visit the wine making parts, culminating in a wine tasing of the various wines Cricova makes. Note: one of us does not drink alcohol and we were able to negotiate a slight reduction in the tour cost to reflect that one would not taste any wine. Iulian was so flexible when we wanted a stroll before the tour and talked to some of the pickers we saw and helping us after the tour to find a restaurant and have a great lunch. In Chisinau we visited the centre of the city, and enjoyed a pleasant stroll around, nearly treating ourselves to some gold (but we didn’t!) and visiting the tourist shop (appeared to be the only souvenir shop in the city!). Iulian kept our interest throughout the long drive there and back and I thoroughly recommend. We were delighted when Iulian then took us to the Painted Monastries (do that too – so lovely!)
