Summary: Let's start by asking the questions: is this for real or just a manufactured tourist attraction? And, is it worth it? The answers to both are definitely yes! Take the #122 bus from Grindelwald or just hike up the hill to the Canyon, buy a ticket (21 Francs CH) and head into it. Etched from now long gone glaciers, the path up it leads deep into the canyon. Lining its walls are waterfalls, rock tumbles, and more. And the path keeps going deeper, deeper, deeper, resulting in us actually having had a fairly substantial, and yet well marked, hike deep into the heart of the Alps. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience I highly recommend. There is also a restaurant at the base where you can grab a sandwich (delicious!) and something to drink (hot chocolate on a drizzly day for us), as well as a public bathroom.

Summary: We wondered if it was a good idea to visit one hour before closing on a rather grey drizzly day. We decided to go for the sake of our 15 year old who was interested in doing the spider web. Fortunately we had a car as it would be a killer walk down to the gorge. It felt very different to the Aareschlucht Gorge (which was green and pretty). This was much greyer, more raw and geological, with interesting panels about how the ice has changed over the centuries and a display of minerals in the entrance area. Some information about where those minerals were found would have been useful. This feels more like a base for activities than Aareschlucht did. We were lucky to see someone doing the Canyon Swing - something like a 120ft drop at 80kmh. Terrifying. She was swinging like a pendulum in front of us (still smiling). Glad we went as, at that late time, the spider web was virtually empty. I don’t think it would have been much fun with lots of people on it.

Summary: A really interesting geological site and fun to walk on the ‘spider web’ over the river! It’s quite expensive considering it’s only a walk on a pathway in the canyon.
