Summary:
We had a wonderful time. Ferguson and Heireberto picked us up from our hotel at 0515. We then headed to the beach where we departed. We got to see turtles, birds, and an caoti while eating breakfast. We also got the opportunity to swim / snorkel at violin beach which was a great spot. We felt safe and in good hands the entire time as well. Good times!

Summary:
We booked the sunrise kayak tour with Ferguson or (“Fergie” as he prefers) and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. He picked us up promptly from our hotel at 5:10 AM, and after grabbing the kayaks and some coffee, we were on our way.
Our tour happened to coincide with the annual beach cleanup kayak competition, so the beach was buzzing with energy and kayakers—it added a fun, unique atmosphere to the morning. On the water, we were lucky enough to witness the incredible chimney phenomenon, spot mating turtles, a hermit crab, beautiful tropical fish, Frigatebirds soaring overhead, and of course, a breathtaking sunrise.
Ferguson is knowledgeable and easygoing, creating the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. The best time to visit Huatulco for whale watching is December, but even in August we had a fantastic time and saw so much marine life.
The kayak portion lasts about 2.5 hours. I wore a bikini, Alo skirt and crop top, Tevas, and sunglasses, and brought a waterproof phone case with a paracord crossbody strap—perfect for capturing the views. We also brought a dry bag with towels and water bottles, which I highly recommend. I used my own snorkel that prevents water inhalation, but if you don’t have one, Ferguson provides goggles (just note that he doesn’t have snorkels).
Whether you’re an early riser or not, the sunrise tour is absolutely worth it—you’ll leave with amazing memories and a deep appreciation for Huatulco’s natural beauty.
