I thoroughly enjoyed it, but you have to be interested in history and gems to go. Would not be a place for little kids. Lots to read and stood for > 1h. The family and people who work there are very nice and knowledgeable.

We had some extra time during our visit to Albuquerque so we decided to visit the Turquoise Museum. And we are so glad we did! The introductory video was an excellent start to the tour. We loved wandering through all of the rooms and learning more and more about turquoise and viewing all of the stunning pieces. But the best part was signing up for the extra Lapidary and Silversmith demonstrations. Joe Dan is an excellent instructor and we really enjoyed the conversations that we had with him! And meeting Jacob and Kathy and chatting with them just added to the great experience! Wishing you all much success with your museum!! We highly recommend this Albuquerque museum!!

Summary:
My friend and I thought this would be a fun stop on one afternoon while we were in town for the Balloon Fiesta. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.
I love gemstones and thought that I had some knowledge about turquoise, but I learned that I had barely scratched the surface. The displays here were breathtaking, the information they give was fascinating and what you learn about the history, culture and spiritual significance of this gem will leave you awed.
But, the real gems are the family who run the museum. Jacob, Joe Dan, Kathy and the others were gracious, charming and generous with their time and knowledge. Do yourself a favor and do not miss this experience.
