It was so cool to learn about and see familiar species growing in nature such as fennel, figs, cherries and grapes! Sonya was so personable, it was an honor to get to know her. Summary: Visiting Cinque Terre is on the bucket list of many, especially as this UNESCO site popularity has grown over the two decades. So of course it was on mine. The challenge is that with increased tourism you get an influx of foreign products and influences and can end up not getting to see the real Cinque Terre. I booked this tour specifically looking for authenticity. Sonia did not disappoint. She shared her extensive knowledge about the history of the area, the ecosystems, the native plants, those plants brought by the monks in the 1300s and how it’s used in traditional Ligurian cuisine. She came with a traditional picnic of focaccia and local pesto served with a chilled local wine that we shared overlooking the cliffs under a tree. What an incredible intimate and beautiful experience! We came away with some understanding of the history and culture as we were looking for. Truly an experience to remember.

Summary: Our tour of Cinque Terre was amazing thanks to Sonia, our warm and knowledgeable guide who made this a stress-free and fun experience for my wife and I. Not only did she give us the historical backgrounds and unique perspectives of each of the five villages, allowing us see them through her eyes and with a local's knowledge as she guided us through the hilly terrain, but we also took a break every now and then to have an espresso or other refreshment as she pointed out the uniqueness of the village in which we sat. One of the wonderful things she arranged was a pesto-making class at a restaurant overlooking the water, an experience that had my wife and I laughing as we drank wine and learned to make pesto, all while enjoying a charcuterie board provided by the restaurant. Not only was this a nice break from walking the steep hills, but it also let us sit an enjoy the spectacular scenery with a generous pour of wine. The night following the tour, Sonia sent us a video that she'd put together of our time in the villages, providing us with a fantastic keepsake of our experience. If you want an amazing tour guide who will immerse you in what you're seeing rather than marching you between sights, you won't do better than Sonia.

Summary: Our tour guide Sonia was the best! We are a family of 6, and she kept all of us entertained with her positive energy, and suggested an alternate itinerary to accommodate the younger kids. We visited 4 of the 5 Cinque Terre towns starting in Manarola. We then walked along the Via Dell’Amore, a beautiful hike along the coast, to Riomaggiore. From there we took a train to Vernazza, where we had lunch along the water and she brought us some special treats. She also brought us local focaccia as a snack. Our last stop was Monterosso where we hung out at the beach to rest. Sonia was also helpful pre-tour. Cinque Terre requires a ticket to access the trails, trains, and special ticket for the Via Dell’Amore, and Sonia pointed us to what we needed, including the Family pass discount. We highly recommend Sonia as she made our trip to Cinque Terre entertaining and stress-free.
