Summary: We were picked up from our hotel by our guide, Khalid Najjar, and taken by car to the Jerash ruins. You will need a Jordan pass to get free entry into the site. And what an amazing place! We didn’t realise just how extensive the ruins are and how well preserved it is. The amphitheatre is beautiful and there are many beautiful places in the complex to get stunning photos. We didn’t hire a guide, there are signs along the way to read explaining what the sections are and what they were used for. It is hot walking around but there are places that you can buy water - I advise haggling the price as they can be expensive. We walked the site for 2 hours before heading back to the cafe at the entrance for a lemon and mint drink. Khalid then drove us to the Ajlun Castle. Again, entry is free here with a Jordan Pass. This place is a living piece of history. Walking across the bridge into the main entrance of the castle gave me chills and bought me to tears. The castle is a historical monument still standing from the crusade times. When you are walking the ramparts you are following in the footsteps of Saladin and his army defending their country from the invaders. The view from the top is just gorgeous but there are a lot of uneven stairs and it is a climb so wear comfortable shoes. We spent about 2 hours exploring here. After this we went to a lovely restaurant for a delicious meal before returning back to Amman. Highly recommend this tour for those that love history!
