Summary: Great day out! We were met by very warm, friendly and helpful staff and the self guided route was straightforward despite the size of the prison! As the prison is centuries old, every aspect of the history of British correction can be covered on the visit! Only slight negative was where to park but not enough to affect the day!

Summary: We went on the recent tour, in Oct 2025. We had a fantastic night there, the guards and staff are all amazing ! Very informative ! Being left alone to explore the prison and all the various areas was excellent, worth the 6 hour drive to get there ! Two tips for you, make sure you have a good rest before you start the night as you'll end up nackered ! and second tip, definately take a warm sleeping bag (not in summer of course) as the night is icy cold in the cells ! Unfortunately for us we didn't really have any spiritual events...however !.....we got a number of words come through on Ghostube....one name that came through (on the Felon's wing) was 'Alice' we thought nothing of it at the time...but ! found this when we got home ; ''Alice Coward passed away while awaiting trial in Shepton Mallet Prison. Jane Brooks, however, faced a different fate. She was found guilty at the Chard Assizes and met her end in Shepton Mallet in March 1658.'' ...mental ! 😀
